A day in Sydney

Sometimes a day in Sydney with champagne and a musical is just what’s needed.

And with Sydney only a car trip, train ride, ferry, light rail and a car trip back again away….it makes for the perfect day out.

As close is Sydney is to Newcastle (obviously demonstrated above), often I make my way there thinking “yeah we will just find somewhere to eat once we get there”. Inevitably, however, I  spend a lot of the time failing to find somewhere “cool” to eat/drink, and resort to somewhere I’ve been to before…or an old faithful like Maccas.

But yesterdays trip went off without a hitch. Admittedly, I’ve been to a few of these before, but I would highly recommend next time you find yourself in the big city for the day.

Stop one: Estuary Restaurant
Forget the twin servos, coffee with water views over the Hawkesbury River is more like it. With it’s takeaway window and outdoor casual seating, it makes for the perfect car ride pit stop.

Stop two: Opera Bar
Leaving our car at Hornsby, we jumped on the train to Circular Quay and made our way to the Opera Bar for a glass of bubbly and some nibbles. Opera Bar may be a well known classic go-to, but with views of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House & the rest of the harbour it’s no wonder why.Opera Bar

Stop three: Hacienda
More bubbles and more nibbles. This is the prettiest bar I’ve ever seen, it’s like walking into Instagram heaven <3 So, of course, we took just a few pics!

Stop four: The Star
A short ferry ride to The Star (which felt a little longer when you’re pushing for time) was for the musical, The Book of Mormon. A hilarious production created by the same creators as South Park, definitely recommend seeing.

Finally, the light rail and train took us back to Hornsby before making the drive back to Newcastle.Sydney Bar
