The responsibility of owning a plant

The responsibility of looking after a living thing is something that should not be taken lightly. It is in our DNA to nurture, feed and watch a living thing grow to its full potential as we become proud parents of watching it live its best life.

It fills our life (house) with joy, life and warmth. No, I am not talking about a human child, nor am I talking about a pet. No, I am talking about the very serious reality of owning a plant!

Admittedly I have failed miserably in the past…see below image…whose lifeless body still sadly hangs in the kitchen. RIP.

But unlike that of a child or pet, it is simply out with the old and in with the new. Welcoming to the family…this plant whose name I have no idea, it just looked pretty in the shop.

Despite my obvious limited knowledge of plants, I am learning to take this responsibility very seriously because a) what a waste of money otherwise, & b) I can only afford to buy one plant at a time and if my overall goal is to have my house filled with beautiful plants they are all going to have to stay alive for a lot longer than a few weeks.

Which means remembering to water them regularly, ensuring they have enough sunlight, and trusting someone else to look after them when I am away (which I may have forgotten to do recently, but all is good, and it lives on).
